Every spring we get the same tune-up call. "It shakes when I'm sitting at the light on Scenic Highway. Once I'm moving its fine." That's a misfire. On a BMW or Mercedes it's usually one tired ignition coil, or a set of plugs past thier miles. A weak spark shows at idle first, becuase that's when the engine turns slowest.

Spark Plugs by Heat Range

A plug that runs to hot in a turbo BMW or Mercedes can pre-ignite, and that damages pistons. We fit OEM or OEM-equivalent plugs in the heat range, gap and electrode metal your engine was built for, and torque them by the book. Never the cheap generic set, thats how misfires start.

Ignition Coils

Coils fail often on high-mileage German engines, the BMW N54 and N55, the Mercedes M272 and the VW EA888 most of all. One bad coil means a misfire, a ruff idle and a check engine light. We test each coil on the factory software and replace only the ones that has failed.

Air and Cabin Filters

A clogged engine air filter cost you power and fuel. A packed cabin filter is why the vents smell and blow weak after pollen season. We fit the right size for your model, including the charcoal cabin filter many German cars calls for. Both filters is a small job. You notice it everyday.

Fuel System Service

Direct injection engines leave carbon on the intake valves and the injector tips. Over time the spray pattern goes ragged and the idle gets lumpy. We clean the fuel system to bring the injectors back, wich helps the engine burn clean and stretches the time between walnut blasting.

The Factory Scan

Every job here starts and ends with a scan on the software your car speaks, ISTA for BMW, XENTRY for Mercedes, ODIS for Audi and VW, PIWIS for Porsche. Pending codes show up before there a warning light. If a coil is on its way out, we'll see it before you feal it.

What's Due on Your Car

Plug miles differ by make. BMW iridium plugs go about 45,000 to 60,000 miles, Mercedes 30,000 to 60,000, Audi and VW 40,000 to 60,000, Porsche 30,000 to 45,000. Air filters gets checked every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. We check the interval for your exact engine and tell you whats due.

How often does a German car need a tune-up?

It depends on the plugs. Most BMW, Audi and VW plugs go 40,000 to 60,000 miles, Mercedes and Porsche closer to 30,000 to 45,000. Filters go sooner, expecially after pollen season. We check your engine's interval and tell you whats due.

What are the signs my car needs a tune-up?

A rough idle at the light, a stumble when you pull away, worse fuel econemy, slow cold starts, or a misfire code. Its usually plugs or a coil. Fresh plugs and a coil check make a bigger diffrence than most people expect.

Can I use any spark plugs in my German car?

No. Turbo German engines need a plug with the right heat range, gap and metal. The wrong one can pre-ignite on a high-compresion engine and wear the coils out early. We fit OEM or OEM-equivalent plugs from Bosch, NGK or the factory suplier.

Should I replace all the coils or just the bad one?

On a high-mileage car with one dead coil, the rest is close behind, so we suggest the set while the labor is already paid for. On a low-mileage car, just the one thats failed. We test each coil and give you a strait answer.

Why does my car shake at idle but drive fine?

Because a weak spark show at low speed first. At idle the engine turns slowest, so a tired plug or coil misses there and catches up once your moving. It's a classic misfire, and its an easy find on the factory scan.

Do you tune up all German makes?

Yes. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche, plus MINI, AMG and BMW M cars. Each make has its own plug spec, coil design and filter, and we carry the factory software for all of them. Its all we've done since 2010.
